The history of Sekisui Kasei Group – From foundation to today’s success
As a pioneer of foam plastics
1959
Established as Sekisui Sponge Industries Co. Ltd. with head office and factory in Nara City, and started expandable polystyrene (EPS) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) foam business.
1960
Commenced production of expandable polystyrene (EPS) beads.
1961
Opened Tokyo Sales Office (currently Tokyo Headquarters),
Opened Kanto Factory (currently Sekisui Kasei Kanto Co., Ltd.) in Ibaraki.
Relocated head office to Osaka City.
1962
Commenced production of polystyrene paper (PSP).
1963
Commenced production of polyurethane foams.
1964
Listed on the second section of the Osaka Securities Exchange. (currently Osaka Exchange, Inc.)
1966
Opened Tenri factory (currently Sekisui Kasei Tenri Co., Ltd.) in Nara City, and commenced production of polystyrene paper (PSP)
1968
Commenced production of polyethylene foams in Kanto factory and Tenri Factory.
1969
Changed company name to Sekisui Plastics Co., Ltd. (currently Sekisui Kasei Co., Ltd.)
Opened Shiga factory (currently Sekisui Kasei Shiga Co., Ltd.) and commenced production of expandable polystyrene (EPS) beads.
1970
Established Kasahara Kasei Co., Ltd. (currently Sekisui Kasei Toubu Co., Ltd.) and commenced production of expanded polystyrene (EPS) foams.
1971
Started expanded polystyrene (EPS) recycling activity collaborated with leading consumer electronics companies.
1973
Listed on second section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange. (currently Tokyo Stock Exchange, Inc.)
1974
Developed polystyrene/polyolefin hybrid resin foam (PIOCELAN).
1976
Established Hokkaido Eslen Co., Ltd.(currently Sekisui Kasei Hokkaido Co., Ltd.) in Chitose City, Hokkaido.
1978
Opened Oita Factory (currently Sekisui Kasei Oita Co., Ltd.) in Oita, Kyushu and commence production of polystyrene paper (PSP).
Listed on the first section both at the Tokyo Stock Exchange and Osaka Securities Exchange.
On the path of Growth
1985
Commenced TECHPOLYMER acrylic polymer microparticle business.
Launched EPS construction method.
1989
Opened Okayama Factory (currently Okayama Production dept. of Sekisui Kasei Tenri Co., Ltd.), and commenced production of polystyrene paper (PSP).
1993
Launched ST-gel, High-performance and highly safe gel materials.
1994
Opened Ibaraki Shimodate Factory (currently Shimodate Production dept. of Sekisui Kasei Kanto Co., Ltd.), and commence production of polystyrene paper (PSP).
Acquired manufacturer of plastic food containers Giken Kasei Co., Ltd. (currently Sekisui Kasei Kansai Co., Ltd) in Itami City, Hyogo.
1995
Closed Nara Factory and moved location of the head office to Osaka due to city planning of Nara City.

2004
Established Sekisui Plastics (Shanghai) International Trading Co., Ltd. (currently Sekisui Kasei Shanghai International Trading Co., Ltd.) and Tianjin Sekisui Kasei Co., Ltd. (currently Sekisui Kasei Tianjin Co., Ltd.) in China.
Made Yun Chu Chemical Industrial Co., Ltd. (currently Sekisui Kasei Taiwan Co., Ltd.) a consolidated subsidiary.
Established Sekisui Plastics Yamaguchi Co., Ltd(currently Sekisui Kasei Seibu Co.,Ltd.) in Hofu City, Yamaguchi.
2006
Established Sekisui Plastics U.S.A. Inc. (currently Sekisui Kasei U.S.A. Inc.) in Tennessee
Established Sekisui Plastics Saitama Co., Ltd. (currently Sekisui Kasei Saitama Co., Ltd.)
2007
Established Sekisui Plastics Europe B.V. (currently Sekisui Kasei Europe B.V.) in Almelo, Netherlands.
Established Suzhou Sekisui Plastics Co., Ltd. (currently Sekisui Kasei Suzhou Co., Ltd.) in Suzhou, China.
Established SEKIWOO Co., Ltd. (currently Sekisui Kasei Korea Co., Ltd.) in Seoul, Korea.
2008
Established Taiwan Sekisui Jintatsu (currently Sekisui Kasei Taiwan Co., Ltd.) in Taipei City, Taiwan.
2009
Acquired the PSP business of Sunpolymer Corporation and established Sekisui Plastics Saitama Co., Ltd. (currently Sekisui Kasei Saitama Co., Ltd.) in Hasuda City, Saitama. Created “Sekisui Kasei Group’s 100-Year Vision” to commemorate the 50th anniversary.
2010
Established Sekisui Plastics Kyushu Co., Ltd. (current Sekisui Kasei Seibu Co.,Ltd.) in Fukuoka City, integrated the branch, factory and sales companies in Kyushu region.
2012
Established Sekisui Plastics Chubu Co., Ltd. (currently Sekisui Kasei Chubu Co., Ltd.) in Nagoya City, integrated the branch and group companies in Chubu region.
Established Sekisui Plastics (Thailand) Co., Ltd. (currently Sekisui Kasei Thailand Co., Ltd.)
2013
Listed only on first section of Tokyo Stock Exchange due to the integration of cash equity markets of the Tokyo Stock Exchange and Osaka Securities Exchange.
Established Sekisui Plastics Tohoku (currently Sekisui Kasei Tohoku Co., Ltd.) in Sendai City integrated the branch and group companies in Tohoku region.
2014
Established Sekisui Kasei Toubu Co., Ltd. (currently Sekisui Kasei Toubu Co., Ltd.) in Ibaraki, integrated several subsidiaries in the Kanto region.
Established Sekisui Plastics Taiwan Co., Ltd. (currently Sekisui Kasei Taiwan Co., Ltd.) integrated subsidiaries in Taiwan.
Launched ST-LAYER, the carbon-fiber composite using proprietary foam technology of Sekisui Kasei.
2015
Established Sekisui Plastics Mexico S.A. de C.V. (currently Sekisui Kasei Mexico S.A. de C.V.) in Guanajuato state, Mexico.
2016
Expanded business of industrial fields by acquiring rights of management of Yamakyu Co. (currently Sekisui Kasei Yamakyu Co., Ltd.)
2018
Established Sekisui Kasei Thailand Co., Ltd. its 2nd molding factory in Rayong, Thailand.
2019
Acquired Proseat Group an automotive components manufacturer in Europe in order to strengthened core technologies and core business both groups have.
Launched ELASTIL the thermoplastic elastomeric bead foam.
